Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic organisation of Catholics, who with the blessing of the church and under the steadfast guidance of Mary Immaculate Mediatrix of all Graces, serve the church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis. The Legion of Mary’s goal is to bring God’s glory via the members holiness which is achieved through prayer and active participation in Mary and the Church’s activities.
The Legion of Mary was founded by Frank Duff on 7th September 1921 at Myra House, Francis street, in Dublin. His reason for establishing the Legion was to help Catholics fulfill their baptismal promises by dedicating their time, talent and treasure to the Church in an organised structure through fraternity and prayers.
Personal service performed while under the power of the Holy Spirit is the general and primary method through which the Legion of Mary is to accomplish its goal.
Along with evangelisation, which can be accompanied through house and hospital visit that may lead to conversion to God and the Church, seeing and serving Christ in the sick and marginalised are two other essential component of the Legion apostolate.
By God’s grace, the Legion has expended to become a Global organisation with millions of members. A presidium is the smallest unit of the Legion and its typically located in a parish. The presidium holds weekly meetings and assigns apostolic work mostly in pairs. Additionally, the Legion has auxiliary members, for individuals who genuinely cannot attend the weekly meetings all the time. Their primary work is a prayer of service to the Legion.
To the Glory of God and Honour to Mary our Parish has been able to establish a presidium with the support and assistance of our Parish Priest Father Anthony and his assistant Father John.
The presidium holds its weekly meetings every Saturday by 4.30pm at the upper room in the Church. We are excited to welcome new members into our fold and we ask our Mother Mary to give us the strength and grace to serve genuinely as she takes the lead.
