Update – St Paul’s Church, Asuokaw, Ghana – Our Lenten Appeal Project 2025
The appeal for Fr James’ parishioners in Ghana, started in March 2025, has now come to an end. In total you have raised £6,740.93p. This is just over 89% of the original estimated costs.
This has been an amazing response – thank you all so much for your wonderful generosity. We hope to post new photos as the church takes shape in the coming months.
Fr James and his parishioners have sent their deepest thanks for all you have done.
A Church for Asuokaw: Help Fr. James Build a Home for Worship
When Fr. James Buah-Nkwantabisa joined our parish for two months in 2024 as a supply priest, he did far more than lead services—he became a beloved member of our community. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering faith touched many hearts, and we are delighted that he will be returning to us in 2025, during our 150th Anniversary Year.
But while Fr. James was with us, he shared a dream—one that we now have the opportunity to help make a reality.

A Church That Has Waited Too Long
In the vibrant town of Asuokaw, Ghana, Catholics have gathered in faith since 1980. Yet, for over four decades, they have worshipped not in a church, but in a simple hut. Asuokaw is a growing community, attracting new residents from nearby Asamankese, yet the lack of a proper church has forced many Catholics to travel long distances every Sunday—or worse, to drift away from their faith altogether.
Despite their deep devotion, they have lacked a place to call their own. Now, they are ready to change that.
A Dream Within Reach
Fr. James and his parishioners are determined to build a church that can hold 250 people—a sanctuary where faith can flourish for generations to come. The local community has pledged to provide the labour, volunteering their time and skills to bring this dream to life. What they need now is our support to cover the cost of materials.
The total cost to build this church is just £7,500—a small sum when compared to the immense impact it will have on the lives of so many faithful Catholics.

Our Mission This Lent
Canon Anthony has designated this as our Lenten Project for 2025. As we reflect on sacrifice, renewal, and generosity, we have the chance to give a gift that will last far beyond the season—helping our brothers and sisters in Asuokaw build a church that will stand as a beacon of faith and community. We will continue to raise funds throughout our 150th Anniversary Year for this project.
Fr. James has given us a detailed project plan, and with our support, this vision can become a reality.
