My Thoughts 07/06/2022
After the Sunday’s feast of Pentecost, we have come to the end of the Easter Season. We are now entering Ordinary Time. The word “ordinary” is not used meaning “nothing special” but its use here comes from ordinal numerals by which the weeks are identified or counted, 1st, 2nd. 3rd. This week is the 10th Week in Ordinary Time.
In our diocesan Liturgical Calendar, there is a suggested Cycle of Prayer for the Summer months. We are encouraged to pray for
- A deeper understanding between Christians and Jews.
- Those who suffer persecution, oppression and denial of human rights (especially on 22nd June, the Feast of Saint John Fisher and Thomas More)
- Human Life (especially on the third Sunday of June)
- Seafarers (especially on the second Sunday of July (Sea Sunday)
- Europe (especially on the Feasts of St Benedict, Saint Bridget and Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Patrons of Europe)
Every Sunday, we have the Faithful Prayer, commonly known as the bidding prayers. What do you feel God is asking you to pray for today?
Today, heavy on my heart is the news of the killing of at least 50 people at the Catholic church of St Francis in the town of Owo in southwest Nigeria. Let us pray for those killed, those who have suffered the loss of their loved ones and for healing and forgiveness.
