My Thoughts on 17/08/2021

Yesterday we heard in St Matthew about the young man who went away sad after hearing Jesus say

“If you wish to be perfect, go and sell your processions, give the money to the poor and you will have treasure for yourself in heaven; and come follow me. But when the young man heard these words he went away sad for he had many processions.”

Today, Jesus says it is hard for someone rich to enter into the kingdom of heaven. The Irish Franciscan, Sylvester O’Flynn says that we need to reverse the question “How do I get into the kingdom of Heaven” by asking ourselves

“How do I let the kingdom and its ideals into me? Our processions can be an obstacle or a barriers to letting Jesus into our hearts and minds. If we depend on what we have for our security there is less of a chance of relying on Gods power. We are so often tempted to rely on out privileged, status, power and processions to see us through.”

Lord give me the grace today to let go of what I hold onto as my security and may I have the humility to hand everything over to you.
