My Thoughts on 10/05/2021

The Acts of the Apostles, written by Luke are sometimes referred to as “The Acts of the Holy Spirit.” So often we read that Paul and the apostles and early community were prompted and led by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit would push them out of their comfort zone.

In today’s gospel Jesus promises to send the Advocate. “When the Advocate comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father, he will be my witness. And you too will be witnesses,”

I wonder sometimes if constantly reminding the people of God that they are to be witnesses makes most of those who listen feel uneasy. Perhaps they prefer to stay in their Catholic bubble. Is this the reason that the message of the gospel is ineffective? Do we really trust the prompting of the Holy Spirit to be our strength and stands beside us so that we can be truly missionary disciples?
