My Thoughts on 12/04/2021

Throughout this Easter season the first readings at Mass come from the Acts of the Apostles. In this past week we heard how Peter and John were hauled up before the authorities for healing a man who was crippled. Eventually they were released and joined the rest the community telling them what had been said by the chief priest and the community. As the community prayed together with Peter and John, the house rocked. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.

How do we experience the power and presence Holy Spirit in our Church today? Do our buildings rock? Do we rock? We have all been given the Holy Spirit at Baptism and Confirmation. It is the Spirit who enables us to pray, the Holy Spirit guides us and fills us the courage to be an evangelising parish, a missionary disciple. There is much in our lives that perhaps inhibit the Holy Spirit truly being active in our lives and in our parish. One simple way is to pray every morning. “Come Holy Spirit”.

Another suggestion is to take part in the online Life in the Spirit seminars organised by our Archdiocese. These will be on Tuesday nights from 4th May 2021.
