My Thoughts on 12/11/2020

When I was a newly ordained priest I became a chaplain to a small Young Christian Worker group at the Cathedral and every year the Young Christian Workers would gather on the feats of Christ the King.

I can remember celebrating mass for them at the end of an afternoon in a hall on the Haygate Estate near the Elephant and Castle. I remember distinctly attempting in my homily to explore the meaning of the words that we have in today’s Gospel. Jesus says “The kingdom of God is among you”. We, as disciples of Jesus are called to bring about the Kingdom of God. For kingdom we can substitute the word “reign”. Let God’s reign be a reign of love, justice and peace. So the kingdom of God is already here, already working in an imperfect world. We are the task force with the mission to bring about his kingdom.

Lord give me the grace to share your kingdom of love justice and peace today.
