The second new feast we celebrate this week is The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Eternal High Priest. On Monday we celebrated Mary, Mother of the Church.
Why the feast? It is seen as an effective way to build upon the teaching of the Second Vatican Council about the Priesthood of Christ, and our sharing in that one Priesthood through the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Orders. Christ is the Priest who is the mediator between God and human beings, fulfilling his Father’s will, he sacrificed himself once on the altar of the Cross as a saving Victim for the whole world.
At Mass today we pray especially for those who God
“has chosen as ministers and stewards of his ministers may be found faithful in carrying out the ministry they have received.”
Let us pray for all ordained priests, especially Fr Kevin St Aubyn, parish priest of Whitstable who is celebrating his 60th anniversary of ordination this month and for John Howard, Peter Sebastian, Dermott O Gorman and Giovanni Prandini who are to be ordained priest by Archbishop John Wilson in the Summer.
