Project Description

St Thomas’ Church
Christmas Appeal 2020

We are running two projects for people in need in the local community, all of whom are in real need of some Christmas joy and to be reminded that they are loved and thought of. We would be delighted if you could get involved with either one or both projects.

Shoeboxes for the Homeless

We are collecting gift-filled shoeboxes for the homeless charity, Porchlight. The idea is that donors wrap up a shoebox (or other similar sized box) with Christmas paper and fill it with items such as socks, toiletries, gloves, non-alcoholic Christmas treats, notepads, pens and instant coffee sachets and tea bags – this is not an exhaustive list and so, provided it is non-alcoholic and inoffensive, you are free to include any other luxuries you feel would be appreciated by someone who is either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

It would also be a lovely touch if you could include a Christmas card with a brief Christmas message offering Christmas wishes to the recipient. The boxes will be given to those in accommodation at Craddock House, those at risk of homelessness and those who are currently homeless.

Hampers for local families and the elderly

The SVP work closely with families and individuals in need in the local community and has identified a few families and elderly residents who, due to difficult circumstances, are very much in need of some Christmas joy and to be reminded of God’s love this year. The recipients of your donations include families, which comprise both young and older children, and elderly individuals.

We would very much appreciate donations of colouring or puzzle books, luxury toiletries, socks, children’s games, Christmas biscuits, tea, Christmas cake (wrapped) and any other non-alcoholic and inoffensive items which you think would be appreciated by either a family or an elderly person on their own this Christmas. We will then put the items together into hampers for distribution by the SVP.

Whilst the Church is open for private prayers, donations can be brought to the Church by Sunday 29th November. A table for collecting donations will be available inside the railings of All Saints Chapel.
