IARCCUM – Sunday’s Vigil Mass
Last Saturday, 27th January, over twenty Catholic bishops from various parts of the world joined us at St Thomas of Canterbury for Sunday’s Vigil Mass.
They were joined by many Anglican bishops and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justine Welby.
These Anglican and Roman Catholic bishops were part of an ecumenical summit organised by the international Anglican-Roam Catholic Commission for Unity and Mission (IARCCUM). They had arrived on Friday evening from Rome, where they had been with the Pope for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The principal celebrant at our Mass was the Archbishop of the Solomon Islands, Christopher Cardone OP, and the preacher was the Anglican Bishop of Quebec Bruce Myers OCG . In his homily he spoke about the distinction between authority and power.
On Sunday, the Bishops took part in the sung Eucharist in Canterbury Cathedral, at which the new Cardinal of Hong Stephen Sau-yan Chow, preached.
