My Thoughts on 11/07/2020
Today on the feast of St Benedict we continue are reflections on the Beatitudes. Pope Francis reminds us that in them we find a portrait of the Master, Jesus. They are the eight steps of happiness. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Naturally we all want a life of happiness and joy and avoid pain and sorrow in our life. Yet pleasure and pain are very much part of all life.
Pope Francis says, “A person who sees things as they truly are and sympathises with pain and sorrow is capable of touching life’s depths and finding authentic happiness.”
We find our consolation not in the world but in Christ. We need not be afraid to share in the sufferings of others. In reflecting on this beatitude Pope Francis says that we discover the meaning of life by coming to aid those who suffer, understanding their anguish and bringing relief.
Lord give me the grace to know how to mourn with others.
